View Full Version : I'm still waitng for "the" PS2 game.
MGS2 was a dissapoitment. Admit it. So, what killer PS2 games are comming out soon? I can't think of many....The GC has Zelda and Mario, the XBox, Halo....the PS2 has many good games, but not a sigle killer app, imo. When I got my PS2, I was hoping for a game that would make all over games look pathetic, like Zelda:OoT on the N64, or FF7 on the PSx...but not one has come...sure, there is the pretty and technically flawless yet unoriginal Jak and Daxter, or the action packed yet shallow (imo!!) Devil May Cry....but not one game has blown me away yet. Two years and waiting.......
ps-Before you crazy PS2 fanboys have a go at me, I don't even own an XBox or GC (that hasn't even come out here yet)

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and what's great and what is not is different from person to person. If you really want a great PS2 game, I suggest you rent\trade\buy games until you find one. If you don't, then maybe you should sell your PS2 for something else. Nothing beats a little bit of hands on research. We can't really tell you what to do if you don't like what's out now.

I cant complain, I got 19 games so far and Im enjoying my PS2 alot more than any other console.
Last game I got was Ace Combat.. Sweet ass.. (this game is underrated IMO.. Maybe you should try it?)

I'm still waiting for my reason to keep my PS2...FFX was not what I expected/wanted. Jak and Daxter was fun, been there, done that. Devil May Cry was awesome...as a rental. MGS2, blah!! GTA3, all the violence was a turn off for me.
Ratchet and Clank looks be a pontential killer app...perhaps E3 will turn your frown upside down. ;)

Too bad. Go play something else.
FFX, MGS2, Silent Hill 2, DMC, RE:CVX, Onimusha, and my new favorite, Fatal Frame, are all reasons enough to own a ps2. I know that some have appeared on other systems, but not in this excellent combination. Don't forget Twisted Metal: Black. Virtua Fighter 4, Tekken 4, Soul Calibur 2. Kingdom Hearts is on its way. What about Suikoden 3, Wild Arms 3, Devil May Cry 2, and Mr. Mosquito? And you really aren't enjoying having a ps2? Psh, go buy an X-Box or gamecube, those are the only places you'll find Zelda or Halo, which I really couldn't give 2 sh*ts about.

CS2x, if you haven't found at least 10 games on the PS2 that make owning it worth while, then just don't buy one cause I doubt any of the upcomming games will suit your tastes. Maybe your standards are just a bit too high and tastes too different? I mean, you should know as well as anybody who's been following the industry that Sony has never been known to be home to the "Cream of the Crop", but instead litters itself with a ton of average to good games, a slew of crap, and the ocassional true gem like MGS, ICO, and GTA3.
Personally, I like variety in gaming style. Hence, my two top choices for this generation being Dreamcast and Playstation2. One has unique and completely odd titles you can't find anywhere else like Jet Grind Radio, Seaman, Shenmue, and such. (When I bought it, I knew the Sega was going 3rd party, but didn't realize just how many of their already existing games would be enhanced and/or ported).. and the other has a library so large that no matter when I go to the software store, there's always at least 2 or 3 titles which catch my eye.
The NGC and Xbox both have excellent titles which I want to play, but since my bases are pretty much already covered I can wait for those consoles to gain respectable librarys and offer price drops. Heh, actually, I'm still waiting for the PS2 price drop before I buy one.
Anyhow, the point of this whole speil is just that, if you can't find any games on the PS2 which pique your interest then just sell it and buy what you like. It's not a sin.. this is a hobby, and if you don't enjoy it then what good does being a gamer do? Just buy what you like.. I really don't see where all this conflict and hesitance is comming from in people.

GC has Zelda and Mario.. and i mean, all PS2 has is MGS2 (didnt disappoint me :)) Grand Theft Auto, Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, Tekken, Virtua Fighter etc etc
all huge system seller, and the list goes on.. hell there are also another HEAP of great games already out (TM:B, Baldurs Gate etc. etc.), and even more coming out later this year..
but its your opinion..
P4 1.5 with a Gf4 and you think Halo will run at some god like FPS? With the way Unreal 2003 is shaping up and with Halo matching it at the very least, I highly doubt your machine will run it as well as you boast.
Im due for an upgrade soon, Im getting a new gfx card, new sound card and I wanna upgrade my ram to around 1024.

that 3dmark is almost stock speeds
when i change the FSB to 133, the P4 hit 1995 mhz :)
they have to make them optimum for middle end machines which are still below the 1ghz range
regardless, it will blow away the xbx version
no blur, no 30 fps, true online play, etc etc

werent there rumours that Bungie were rtrying to port it to PC much faster than expected because of poor Xbox sales? :confused:
Halo was origanlly a PC game anyway, but then Billy Boy saw he could move a few Xbox's with it.
I think some of you misunderstood me, or maybe my post wasn't very clear.....I have many great PS2 games (especially Silent Hill and Ico) but I would really like a huge, massive, revolutionary killer-app game...MGS2 came close with all it's detail, but I hated the convoluted story, personally.

Halo? Been there done that.
Celda? A new game with cel-shading?
Mario? Maybe. Though I don’t think it will that huge and massive..
Ratchet and Clank sounds like a very big game.. You have several planets to explore, lets hope it turns out like I hope it does (see ddarylls topic in the main forum)
Sounds fun.
Other than that Outcast 2 looks AAA (its been delayed cuz Appeal will be working on a new PS2 exclusive game featuring the same engine)

what res did you run your test at? i ran 3dmark2001 se at 1024x768x32(default settings) and got a 7202 which the following setup:
AMD Athlon 1.4ghz
256mb ddr pc2100
ATI Radeon 8500 64mb ddr
i want to hit 8000, i think if i turn all my background programs off, and turn off smoothvision and anistrophic filtering, i can do it.
that is deafault settings, i never understood why it says that
i checked on madionions site and alot of people's benchmarks say that

The best thing I see PS2 having is FFX, if you're looking for that sort of long running franchise game type of thing.
And don't get me wrong, I love games like that. If and when I get a PS2, it will be because of games like that.

the quality of games out this generaton are already up to the standard of last gen.. mainly due to franchises.. the machine is well worth owning IMO.. if you have to wait for one particular game then you will never get a console..
PS2 has its games that are the eqivilent of Zelda and Mario (and personally i prefer them much much better).. so basically.. who cares if you are still waiting, you are wasting your time..

Why deny the PS2 already has a string of killer apps? Tagging a IMO onto a statement doesn't make it true, only true as far as you are concerned. IMO, so far the games on GC and xbox are no where near killer enough to get me to buy either system, yet the fact remains those games have sold (Halo) or will sell (Zelda, Mario) systems.

What killer apps does the Gamecube have? Mario and Zelda have not been released. How can they be killer apps?
How is Halo a killer app while GTA3 is not? GTA3's sales dwarf Halo's. There are more copies of GTA3 sold in the US alone than Xboxes sold WORLDWIDE.
A lot of people hate Halo but they know that it is MS' killer app. Just like people hate Mario and Zelda but know that they will probably be the Big-N's killer apps. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean its bad.

How is it irrelevant? Thats like someone saying DOA is better than Tekken without playing Tekken. Or even if they did it was for 2 minutes in the back of Best Buy.

Im enjoying the games more thats all.
But nothing beats Lego.. Its the best thing ever!!
Boy do I have lots of Legos..
I built a huge city once, with a airport, train station, houses ect :)
