I like it on the PC.

Thats not possible Caspian. You must be thinking about Alied Assult.
If you’ve played the demo and hoped the game would be better in the final release, it isn’t. Frontline is an unpolished product that does little to enhanced the Medal of Honor franchise and in many ways takes a step back from where the original had gone. Completely linear, mindless missions combined with collision detection issues and awful controls make Frontline a hard game to recommend so a rental would be a must before a purchase. Caveat Emptor, Frontline takes one step forward on the PS2 and five back in the gameplay department. Enjoy the first level, just don’t expect too much like it from the rest of the game.
random review i read
im suprised they would do this, but then again, they were rushed to meet the d-day anniversary

EGM gave it a 9 and two 8s. That's pretty awsome considering these people have to be the hardest people to appease in the world.

Just purchased from EB this evening after work. Time to rush that beachhead!!!:D
ok, my initial thoughts
nice packaging :)
comes on a DVD disk
cool intros like all the others, lots of wwII footage with the same narrater quoting the famous Eisenhower speech . best part of the intro is footage of Ike sitting in a chair with his generals *gasp* smoking cigarettes? bozco will be in shock!. i actually liked the intro on MOH1 the best with the learn to speak german skit
anyways, im off to play

I drove for an hour in an insane thunderstorm to EB with plans to trade in three of my PS2 games for Frontline, only to be told that two of my games were "too old" and would not be accepted when I got to the front counter.
Now I must wait a few weeks until I de-lazyify myself and go out and get a job so I can afford to buy the stupid game with stupid money.
Dammit.
ok, finished the 1st mission Omaha Beach
fanfukntastic!
what it lacks in graphical quality compared to the PC version, it makes more than enough up for it in atmosphere. explosions and gunfire EVERYWHERE, soldiers yelling for cover fire, and to get the bangalors. only gripe is thats its slightly easier than the PC version. the Omaha Beach level in MOHAA seemed impossible at 1st. i beat it this time after a few attempts
the dolby sound is dead on
its not 60 fps tho :(
got to the second level, WOW!
if its not 60 fps, than its damn close
very fluid

So, is it worthy of a purchase, or an enjoyable rental? I have mine pre-ordered, and pretty much have to make up my mind in the next half hour before I set out for the day.
Don't suppose there is a widescreen mode?
i would definately recommend picking this up
was only 39$ at my local store
no widescreen mode

Figured as much about a widescreen option being absent.

I have one question mm. How do you like this control scheme but don't like Halo's or Timesplitters??? They are the exact same.
Tetrad
06-01-2002, 02:12 AM
I just got paid today and should pic it up once the deal at Blockbuster is over. I got the whole rent up to two games at a time for a month keep them as long as you want deal. Wanna use that to the fullest. I can't wait to buy it though.
its the sensitivity that i like
IF the xbox's control pad DID NOT have buttons 3 millimeters apart, and DID NOT put the analog sticks on different levels, that i would like it
i digged timesplitters control, it was just TOO sensitive, plus the game was boring

IMO, this is the best FPS the PS2 currently has. I'm just getting into the game, granted...but the controls are spot on == I *love* how the controls are set up for the PS2 controller. Without giving anything away, take this example for some of the "programming finess": When you hit that beachhead right out the shoot...and the whole world just seems to be angry at you...and your only hope is to run for cover...and you get to cover...and then you find out that you have to help your comrades make it to cover...so you have to "put yourself out there" and help your buddies...you realize then that this is a game that has at its core considered its opportunities to "pull you into the emotions of the game". You realize, folks are *counting* on you for the mission(s) to succeed. Good stuff.
As far as "slow downs"??? I've seen none yet...but again, I don't profess to be deeply into the game yet. But seeing the firefight I had to wade through on the beachhead, and that it produced no slowdown...I don't know how I could see evidence of slowdown later in the game (unless the programmers were to get sloppy in later levels...which I doubt).
Mad...coooool...game. Medal of Honor:Frontline == GET IT!:D

This game is top notch of what the PS2 can deliver. The controls, graphics, AI are great. Anyone looking for an awesome first person shooter should pick this one up. The one drawback I see? No multiplayer for its intense gameplay. But hey, it's MOH, not James Bond. Bottome line is that this game earned my $50.

The first level is very choppy IMO; however, considering the situational gameplay and thus, the frenetic reality of this "scene", the technical "under-achievements" really do take the "back-seat" due to the emotionial terror that one must progress through. The 2nd mission smooths out considerably, and so the framerate issue is relatively moot, and so on...
Good game, buy it.

Sorry, I guess the word I was looking for was "choppy"; it lacks the fluidity of the following levels. Just my opinion, and I don't really want to dwell upon one minor imperfection for an otherwise great game.

Aj caramba!
I got the game today!
D-Day level was saaa-weeet!
Boy oh boy.. Alot more action going on than in Allied Assault.
I just started on mission 3 now.
I can tell you that Im enjoying it much more than AA (mebby cuz my PC sucks big hairy balls?)
Oh and the U-boat level rocks!
*goes back to frontline*
I just played the demo, and me likey very much!!
Can the controls be customised? The only problem I had with the demo was looking about, i'm used to inverted look, can it be changed?

58 years since D-day
*moment of silence*
after playing this game for a few days, my additional thoughts
the attention to detail is amazing, ala MGS2
shoot a pipe and steam shoots out of the bullet hole, shoot blankets on the bed, and feathers fly out.
just like the original, the conversations between the german soldiers is dead on and quite humurous sometimes
you owe it to yerself and to the 10,000 that died on that fatefull day to pick this one up

I haven't noticed any slow down on the 1st level, and I luv it. The controls are great, the sound is top notch. U really have to listen to ur comrades, cus its soooo freaking loud, like it would be in real life. The scripted events, bombs going off right beside U. Looking at comrades only to see them blown apart is downright disturbing, and puts u directly into the game. My favorite FPS on the PS2 THUS FAR!

I'm not too keen on the game. The framerate is horrible, the controls are too rigid (especially with no lock-on), and it feels EXACTLY like im playing the original again.. way too linear
the sound is AMAZING though, atmosphere is great
the very first level wasnt too good, i was hoping for more from everything i was hearing
the best level so far (im not too far into it) is the one DIRECTLY out of Saving Private Ryan.. i think its the third mission (after part 2 of storming the beach front)
i just hope it gets better.. so far theres only been one good mission. :(

no way man.. the attention to detail is pretty good in that.. things pop up differently when you shoot different surfaces, but thats it.. this game can NOT compare to MGS2 when it comes to attention to detail.. NO game can.. MGS2 is so far ahead of everygame when it comes to that sort of thing than any other game.

The framerate is horrible
Is not.. It slows down a little when you blow something up or when a lot of soldiers are on screen at once. Far from horrible.
the controls are too rigid (especially with no lock-on),
Yeah the controls are pretty hard at first.. You get used to them after a while. The lack of a lock-on feature bothers me!
the very first level wasnt too good, i was hoping for more from everything i was hearing
You can comfort yourself with that the D-Day level in Frontline is a lot better than the one in Allied Assault.
There is much more happening in Frontline. I also think the rest of the missions in Frontline are better.. (AA felt more like a Quake style shoot 'em up than Frontline does.. There is more sneaking in Frontline IMO)
just hope it gets better.. so far there’s only been one good mission.
The once after the U-boat missions are the best IMO (maybe not Yard to Yard)
yeah, im a stickler for fps, and i cant complain with moh:f
i like not having a lock-on target, makes it more realistic
now if only it supported my usb kb/m

I've encountered some stuttering as I've been progressing through the levels. Its nothing to piss me off beyond belief like some people seem to reach. Of course its uneeded, and a nuiscance, but personally it hasn't affected the gameplay.
Also this game does a good job of distracting you from realizing these are just polygons. Ur eyes have to constantly move, especially on the 1st level, that it actually looks real. I was reading an article in wired magazine saying that the FF movie failed to make the entertain and made the viewers see all of the graphical imperfections since they could focus on it moreso than the story. MOH passed that easily on the 1st board, U didn't have time to see the graphical flaws, and they are good enough to pass for real (well not completely but pretty damn close). This is only my opinion though.
I don't know about anyone else, but this game for me is incredibly terrible when it comes to framerates, particularly the first two levels. In the D-Day mission(s), just as you are coming up to the beach head and all the other soldiers are in front of you in the boat, swing your POV over them from left to right in a steady motion. The framerate dips like crazy and that's not the only scene either. Lets not forget when the plane strafe runs the boat to your left side making the framerate choke terribly.
Oh, but there's more. Let's get to the second mission of the D-Day run. I suppose a tight corridor with little action and motion would allow the framerate to be steady. Low and behold, I'm incredibly wrong. How many soldiers are at the far end of this corridor? 2. Then how come the framerate is dipping like crazy? Who knows. D-day has the excuse of there being too much on-screen happening to allow for a constant framerate and for that, I partially excuse it, but a tight corridor with mediocre textures and only two enemies at the end having framerate issues this poor is inexcusable.
I'm sorry, mm. How you can say this framerate is fine, and yet bash Halo for its framerate really baffles me. It's not like this game was developed by EA for many consoles at the same time either so there's no excuse for a pour port job or for the company not knowing the PS2's architecture either. The game has decent missions and a decent story, but the framerate is just so atrocious that I can't play it without having a massive headache just ten minutes after I start. Hey, that's just me though because I'm really sensitive to it, which is mainly why I can't play games like Red Faction, or a multiplayer game of Perfect Dark or Timesplitters with bots.

Me and a friend just bought it and the slowdown really isnt an issue w/ us. I luv the game. The textures are decent in a lot of areas and not so great in some but overall i have no complaints. I love the atmosphere in the level right after the great U-Boat stage. And for this type of game im suprized to see such great facial animations. The effects are great. The only complaint i have on that front are the explosions caused by the grenades and the stick bomb thingies. Hey the turret on the sub is the shizzle :D .

I'm sorry, but this game is tight. I've seen no slowdown at all. I think that you guys have crappy copies of the game. This game rocks...the sniper levels are really hard, and very long too. First one in the shipyard took me 45 minutes to get a gold...only complaint I have is that there isn't enough blood.
