I can't really suggest any of these since I haven't read reviews. Check out www.cdrlabs.com or www.cdfreaks.com for those. (among other sites)

I can say that the Plextor PX-708a (8X) is fantastic.

Not a single coaster among the ~30~ DVD's I've burned and ~50~ CD's. $139, NewEgg.

I've yet to see any plextor rom in australia. Although i haven't looked, my wholesaler doesn't sell them.

I know liteon is a good brand, i have their 48246S burner. Which is great, but i also have a pioneer dvd-120 rom. Which is also great. Both good brands. I'll end up most likely getting the liteon burner.


The plextor rom is about 250 - 300 AUD. Thats way to much for a dvd burner.. Like i said, i want a rom under 160 woodchips.

After some research the Liteon DVD±R/DVD±RW 8xRetail (SOHW-812S) $145.00 is faster then the highlighted one.. it has 4x RW speed and 8xR speed rather then 2xRW and 4xR with the LDW-851S one but has a slower access time for normal CDR.

So i'll get the SOHW-812S one.. same price but faster. :)

Got 2 blank DVDs (1x- 1x+) with PowerDVD5 and MyDVD4

That's my case above expect I have the PC-75 the same as that but taller. I purchased the Lian-Li CD-ROM stealth bays and man do they look sweet.

As for my Pioneer slot DVD drive, I had to do a professional metallic spray paint job for it to match my case.

I have a front panel mm, they are stealthed.
You only see them when i open the door. I won't spray paint the liteon dvd rom till its passed its warrenty. I may remove the front panels and just add my case plates to them. But i really don't care.

You can add switches to cathodes to turn them off. PCI plates or just box switches. Hell you can make your own...

When paint heats up enough it will flake/chip/peel. Having that inside your rom is a very dangerous thing to do to a cdrom. Although using vinyl dye which stains the plastic rather then coat it would be ok.

Very true, that’s why when I spray painted my tray I used a paint that has a special polymer in it, that allows the paint to bond like glue while maintaining its ascetic look. After a year still to this day the paint is in immaculate condition.

I know, Plextor was the one pushing that, alot of people including myself believe that it was mostly a marketing thing. The improvement you'll get by painting the tray black will be very minimal if it even exists. Non the less the tray had to be painted, so I opted for black.

Personally i've got cds that are over a year old without any problems that are still working perfectly fine. I wouldn't bother doing it.

I respect that, however my tray looks pimp, the Lian-Li Flip down front bezel and then a black tray looks awesome.

What did 'The Matrix' have to do with any of this? I have never done any real modding per say, as for the most part I am a Mac person, but with my new PC being built (granted my trip to Texas sat me back a bit), I have been more and more intereted in modding and I know I will eventually do some slight moddin'. Nothing real comestic (tons of bright lights,etC), but just some stuff to get the overall case a distinct "flow".

So looks like you went and stuck your head into the SAND again, not surprisng. Also I have an OLD althon 1.8 in my puter Upstairs, the computer I currently use Now is a Pentium 4.
