Summoner
PS2 Reader Review by John L ()

To start it off, I had high hopes for this game. At first I was a bit sketchy, so I went to go and rent it from Block-Buster. I was thinking about the previous reviews of this game, and had thought to myself that this game couldnt be all THAT bad. But to my dissapointment, it is. I mean I have to give it at least some credit, it is in fact a ps2 game and one of the first releases. But in other words, it just sucked.

In my opinion the gameplay EXTREMELY lagged. Most of my time spent on the game probably had consisted of its loading time. I mean dont get me wrong here, the graphics make the loading time a little worth it but, thats about it. The fighting, oh my goodness, the ease of fighting is geared toward a kindergartner, and the speed is slower than my grandma. There is NO CHALLENGE in fight scenes. They even give the option to baby you even more through the game by giving you the choice in the options menu to choose the game to fight for you. What is this? For example, in a fight scene, I can just leave the control alone and it just does everything for me with or without even choosing the fight for you choice given in the options menu. The only thing I can do is just watch the SLOOOWW-pased fighting scenes. If thats supposed to be based on realism, then I dont know whats even real anymore. Still if I want to praise the game, I would talk about the graphics. I was amazed, but still very dissapointed. Of course the team up features and the camera view that could be controlled with the right analog joystick is pretty cool, but I had basically paid to see good graphics. And to my knowledge, graphics of the game doesnt solely make a game fun. Its the darn gameplay, and in this case, gameplay is just as bad as dialogue. As the story is a tad bit on the boring side.

All in all this a game you could afford to miss. But if your one of those people that has to get every ps2 game out there, then be my guest. But if not, then you would be much more happier playing a game of chrono cross or silent scope. I think Volition, the maker of the game, is still too green, and needs to spend more time on the overall gameplay of a game, not just the graphics.

Score Overall: 5
Gameplay: 6
Graphics: 9
Sound: 7
Value: 4.5
